[edit] Associates

Since 2005, the series has featured several recurring characters who, while not considered companions, have been an important part of the Doctor's life and have been described (DW: Journey's End) as an extended family. Some of these characters have even shared adventures with the Doctor, including one-off trips in the TARDIS.

[edit] Comic Strips

Since the start of Doctor Who Magazine's comic strips featuring the Ninth Doctor, the comic strip has refrained from creating original companion characters, instead featuring either the Doctor on solo adventures, or accompanied by a television companion.
